WHITE BOY ON TOP OF THE WORLD: Imagine Dragons' Hit Song and Its Meaning

Though many of these values have come under intense pressure in recent years, even pushed to the brink in the last few weeks, the American people are going to emerge from this moment stronger, more determined, and better equipped to unite the world in fighting to defend democracy, because we have fought for it ourselves.

WHITE BOY ON TOP OF THE WORLD

For the diplomacy of Ben Franklin helped assure the success of our revolution. The vision of the Marshall Plan helped prevent the world from foundering on the wreckage of war. And the passions of Eleanor Roosevelt declared the audacious idea of universal rights that belong to all.

The leadership of diplomats of every stripe, doing the daily work of engagement, created the very idea of a free and interconnected world. We are a country that does big things. American diplomacy makes it happen. And our administration is ready to take up the mantle and lead once again.

Traditionally, white rappers were nonexistence in hip-hop with the genre being mostly within the black and urban community, despite for the longest the white community being the largest consumers of rap music. With a very large consumer base, it was just a matter of time until the consumer became the producer.

Some of the first notable white rappers were the likes of the Beastie Boys, MC Serch, Vanilla Ice, Insane Clown Posse, and a few others, while historically the most popular has been Detroit native Eminem. Eminem rose to the top of rap game during the late 1990s and has continued well into the 2020s, becoming one of the greatest rappers of all-time.

Tom MacDonald is truly what the world currently needs. Speaking truth to power, Tom MacDonald has grown a strong following through his slick wordplay of exposing how things really are and not the lies and fantasies that most rap artists display in their music.

In what began as a controversial career, the Florida native has since turned his life and career around. Originally shocking the hip-hop world with his off the wall appearance and his aggressive deliverance, Stitches has maintained his career in rap, producing over a dozen mixtapes and albums since introducing himself in 2015 to the masses.

Just how large and persistent are these racial wealth gaps? As figure 1 shows, median net worth for white households has far exceeded that of Black households through recessions and booms over the last thirty years. While movements in white wealth are easier to see due to the larger scale, during the most recent economic downturn, median net worth declined by more for Black families (44.3 percent decline from 2007 to 2013) than for white families (26.1 percent decline). In fact, the ratio of white family wealth to Black family wealth is higher today than at the start of the century.

Wealth is the sum of resources available to a household at a point in time; as such it is clearly influenced by the income of a household, but the two are not perfectly correlated. Two households can have the same income, but the household with fewer expenses, or with more accumulated wealth from past income or inheritances, will have more wealth. Figure 3 shows median net worth at different points in the family income distribution. What is immediately evident is that the racial wealth gap remains even for families with the same income. For those in the top 10 percent by income (only 3.6 percent Black), the racial wealth gap is still quite large: median net worth for white families in this income group is $1,789,300 versus $343,160 for Black families. A racial gap exists in every income group except the bottom quintile (23.5 percent Black), where median net worth is zero for everyone.

We can throw out the names of the top female supermodels in our sleep, but who are the equivalents of Gisele Bündchen and Naomi Campbell in the men's modeling world? That would be the likes of Sean O'Pry and David Gandy, who once humbly dismissed his supermodel title, saying, "I would sort of just rather be called at the top of the game."

The model is best known for being Karl Lagerfeld's muse and maintaining a super-close relationship with the designer until his death. The New York Times (opens in new tab) once wrote, "As the most senior and prominent member of a group of male models often referred to as Karl's Boys, Brad not only works for Chanel and Fendi...but also accompanies [Lagerfeld] on yearly vacations to St. Tropez and work trips and to parties worldwide." The two have such a special bond that Lagerfeld was named godfather to Kroenig's son Hudson (opens in new tab), the little boy who often appeared next to Lagerfeld during his runway bows.

The model was born in Guinea-Bissau, raised in Portugal, and is now based in New York. Cabral started modeling in 2001 and in 2006 was signed to IMG. He's walked in shows for Louis Vuitton, Dior Homme, Thierry Mugler, and has fronted campaigns for the likes of Balmain. Outside of the modeling world, Cabral launched his eponymous footwear brand, telling Forbes (opens in new tab), "When I was modeling full-time I always said, 'If I ever have the opportunity, I would like to start my own brand.' I started developing the concept of my shoe brand in 2008." You can shop his fashion line (opens in new tab).

Named by Forbes (opens in new tab) as one of the world's most "successful male models," Soldati got his start when his mom signed him up for a Ford contest in his native Brazil. His modeling creds include working for the likes of Louis Vuitton, Valentino, and Guess. He was the main male model for Giorgio Armani ads in 2007 and Armani Jeans ads in 2008. You can follow Soldati on his adventures via his Instagram (opens in new tab).

BG: I think the reggae on this record is a little bit more authentic. The reggae on Culture Club records was a bit, like, cod! 'Live Your Life' is a bit more old-school, because of Richie. He's played with everyone from Linton Kwesi Johnson to Horace Andy. He's the token white-boy drummer in all those bands! He's a shit hot reggae drummer, one of the best. He lives and breathes his reggae. I was working with Youth, who thought we were making a reggae album, and turned some of the songs into reggae tracks that were not reggae tracks. But Richie understood, and undid them. He's not somebody who has to obsessively turn everything into a reggae tune. To me, it feels like a Seventies record. Because even though I'm most closely associated with the Eighties, the Seventies is the decade that shaped me. And I loved it because it was so bonkers, and you had everything happening at the same time. And I think my album's a bit like that! 2ff7e9595c
